What is kept, and for how long.

Check Splitter

Nothing you type is stored. The receipt is worked out and sent back to your browser.

Group tabs

A tab stores its name, the names you add (first names or nicknames are enough), and each cost: what it was, the amount, who paid, who shared it and the date. The private link's key is stored only as a one-way hash. There is no account, email address or phone number.

A tab is deleted when someone with the link deletes it, or after 400 days without being opened. Database backups are kept on the server for 14 days and then deleted, so a deleted tab may survive in a backup for up to 14 days.

Cookies

Two cookies, both needed for the site to work: one holds the key of the tab open in this browser, one protects forms against forgery. No advertising, analytics or tracking cookies, and no fonts from other sites. The only outside service the pages load is the AdEngine banner on the public pages, described under Advertising; it also counts one page view per page as a daily total.

Advertising

Added 17 October 2026. The public pages (home, the empty Check Splitter, how the math works, pricing and about) show one banner ad from AdEngine (adengine.us), the small ad network run by WeldonPC, the company behind this site. For now the ads are for WeldonPC's own services. A group tab, a split receipt, this page and the terms never show an ad.

To show an ad, your browser loads a script from adengine.us, asks it for one banner, loads the banner image, and reports once that the page was viewed and once that the banner was shown. Like any website, adengine.us receives your network address, your browser type and the address of this site with those requests. Nothing from your tab or your receipt is sent with them.

Logs and limits

To enforce daily limits the site counts requests per day against a salted hash of your network address, never the address itself; those counts are deleted after 2 days. The web server keeps standard access logs for security.

Payments

When checkout opens, payment is handled by PayPal; this site will receive only a subscription reference and status, never card details.
